Description Samford is seeking an Associate Director of Campus Recreation. This full-time professional staff member is responsible for overseeing the intramural and club sports operations as well as the fitness and training programs. This role entails managing recreational programs, training of student officials, mentoring/leading/supervising a variety of Club Sports teams, trips, fitness programs and personal training program. In addition, this position will work together to make sure the recreational facilities are safe and in compliance with risk management protocols. This position will directly supervise the Assistant Director of Fitness and Training and the Coordinator of Intramural and Club Sports. Indirectly supervises Assistant Director of Facilities and Reservations, Coordinator of Facilities, Fitness Instructors, and Student Employees. Job Duties Lead the planning, development, and execution of a wide array of intramural, club sports, fitness, and wellness programs. Supervise and work with the Coordinator to maximize student participation in intramurals and club sports; continually refresh and revise program offerings as needed. Ensure all programs adhere to safety standards, risk management guidelines, and relevant compliance frameworks. Coordinate sports club programming functions, to include overseeing the club allocation request process, approving, and tracking appropriations and expenses; assisting clubs with fundraising opportunities; supervising facility scheduling and appropriate coverage for club sport games, competitions, and practices; and contributing to the creation and implementation of a creative marketing strategy. Oversee sport club risk management, travel guidelines, event planning, purchasing policies, facility scheduling, recruitment, and documentation requirements. Develop, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of sports club initiatives. Monitor sports club program annual budgets and payroll functions. Create and regularly update procedural manuals focusing on risk management, to guide staff in the safe and compliant delivery of programs. Develop and implement a robust marketing program to inform students about all recreational programs. Manage and update the departmental website and coordinate the use of social media platforms to improve program visibility. Establish a strong assessment platform for fitness and wellness programs, focused on quality assurance and ongoing improvement. Assist with Project Samson Personal Training Program, closely monitoring and tracking the fitness needs of targeted groups or individuals. Engage in active collaborations with students, faculty, and other university departments to create and maintain recreational and wellness programs. Oversee the budget for assigned areas. Provide leadership and direction to the department's organizational structure, which includes recreational programs, maintenance, and operations. Conduct annual performance evaluations for all positions directly reporting to the Associate Director. Collaborate with the Executive Director to strategize long-term planning for the department. Facilitate, with the Executive Director, to maintain facility scheduling and maintenance for both indoor and outdoor events/activities. Develop specific, achievable, and measurable short-range goals for areas of responsibility within the Campus Recreation department. Attend and contribute to departmental, divisional, and university meetings, as well as special functions, such as orientation and graduation, as required or requested by the Executive Director. Be an active and engaged member of the Student Affairs/Campus and Residential Life Team. Foster and maintain strong inter-departmental relationships to ensure seamless operations across various functions of the University. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Administration, or related field. Minimum three (3) or more years in progressively responsible roles within campus recreation, community health, or sports management. Expertise in risk management, safety protocols, and budgetary guidelines in recreation or sports settings. Highly organized with the ability to manage complex operations. Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends. Ability to multitask and handle frequent interruptions. Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. High emotional intelligence and customer engagement abilities. Commitment to liberal arts education and the Christian mission of the University. Physical ability to navigate campus recreation facilities. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Administration, or related field. Proficient in campus recreation software program(s) - i.e., IM League, Fusion Knowledge of NIRSA standards, guidelines, and sporting rules Experience and success with publicity and marketing of events A commitment to shaping environments in which students are trained and mentored as campus leaders, through education and training for organizations and committee members.
