Job Description

We’re building the next great top-down, action-adventure-puzzle game set in a stylized fantasy world. As our Concept Artist you’ll contribute a ton of your own ideas in designing whimsical forests, quaint villages, ethereal dungeons, quirky characters, creatures and monsters, all in a simple, charming and approachable art style. We’ll also need plenty of ideas for magical effects, animations, modular assets and lots of little odds and ends.

Who We Are

We’re a scrappy little fully remote game studio responsible for creating Maquette with Annapurna Interactive, (BAFTA nominated for "Best Debut"), currently working on our next epic adventure. We’re passionate about creating highly stylized, beautiful worlds with unique, compelling gameplay, a strong sense of discovery, and rich narratives.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Concept Everything: environments, characters, props, modular “lego” pieces, puzzle contraptions, elevators, magical transformations, and much more!
• Iterate a lot! Deliver lots of quick rough sketches and mood art to establish ideas then iterate based on feedback.
• Idea Farming: Gather Ref and participate in brainstorming sessions, providing creative input and generating ideas. 
• Art Director's BFF: Work closely with the AD to push and maintain the overall artistic vision and identity of the game.
• Push Boundaries: Learn and understand our constraints very well so you know how to push the art in all the right ways.
• Solve Puzzles: Paint over screenshots of grey-boxed areas to figure out what the final art might look like and even how some things function.
• Have Fun: We're a very small Indie team and we're all here to simply make games and have fun doing it! We want you to enjoy what you're working on and have a high degree of creative agency with a healthy work-life balance!

The Deal … or Deal Breakers

• Start date: As soon as possible!
• 6-8 months of full-time contract with the possibility of extensions and continued part-time work as needed.
• $35 - $45/hour depending on experience and qualifications.
• This is a work-remote gig: you provide your own equipment and software.
• Flexible hours/schedule as long as you can be available for feedback and collaboration during North American core hours. 

Skills & Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• A portfolio that makes us want to look no further: Showcasing your ability to adapt to different art styles, with an understanding of how concept art translates to 3D game art.
• Tools of the trade: You have an excellent grasp on digital art tools and software such as Photoshop, Procreate, Illustrator, or similar programs.
• Beyond the basics: Clearly have a strong understanding of fundamental art principles such as form, color, perspective and composition.
• Talk-the-talk: You have strong communication and collaboration skills, take direction well, and have the ability to present ideas visually.
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage time effectively.
• A passion for video games and a solid understanding of different game genres and art styles is a plus, but not required.
• Experience designing for a top-down camera angle is a plus, but not required.
