Founded in 1925, the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce is a growing and dynamic 501(c)(6) membership-based business organization that creates value and success for the Lenexa and regional business community by providing resources, connection, advocacy, and strategic planning and by partnering with the City of Lenexa to provide economic development and tourism services.

Key Responsibilities
Event Leadership & Strategy

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute all event management responsibilities for established Chamber events and programs, as well as additional events that align with the organization’s strategic plans. Current events include the Annual Meeting, State of the City, Lenexa Golf Classic, Spring Social, Fall Lawn Party, membership luncheons, Business After Hours, AM Lives, Lunch & Learns, QuickStart Breakfasts, Speed Networking Luncheons, and Active Networking.
  • Develop vendor and venue relationships and manage event contracts.
  • Develop and manage event budgets and provide post-event financial reporting.
  • Continuously evaluate existing programming for improvement using attendance data, feedback surveys, and similar means of analysis.
  • Collaborate with members, volunteers, sponsors, and key stakeholders to ensure programming aligns with member needs and current trends and achieves a positive return on investment for sponsors and attendees.
  • Develop new event experiences and programming as needed to best serve members and the Chamber’s mission, integrating new formats, technologies, or engagement strategies. 
Sponsorship & Revenue Generation
  • Identify and develop sponsorship opportunities that deliver value to sponsors, meet event and budget goals, and accomplish the organization’s mission and strategic plans.
  • Secure sponsorships, revenue opportunities, and attendance necessary to support Chamber events and programming and positively contribute to the Chamber’s overall budget goals.
Event/Program Marketing & Promotion
  • Create and manage marketing campaigns to promote Chamber events and programs and encourage member participation.
  • Design, oversee, and execute engaging event collateral, including event descriptions, graphics, videos, social media posts, email campaigns, and other promotional pieces.
  • Collaborate with communications staff to ensure consistent Chamber branding across platforms.
Member Engagement
  • Attend all Chamber events, serving as an ambassador of the organization, building meaningful member relationships, connecting members, and enhancing retention and member engagement.
  • Assist other staff members as needed. 
Skills/Aptitudes/Qualifications Required
  • Proven success in planning and executing events of all sizes, from small meetings to large signature events, across in-person, virtual, and hybrid formats.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in sponsorship development, creative and innovative event design, and event marketing strategies that boost engagement and measurable results.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in budgeting, aligning resources with strategic goals, and fundamental financial reporting. 
  • Experience planning events & fundraising in a membership/association environment a plus.
  • Experience negotiating and executing venue, catering, and other contracts a plus.
  • Resilient self-starter with demonstrated desire and ability to take initiative, solve problems, negotiate terms, and drive results.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and strong time management skills, able to juggle multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
  • Flexible and adaptive when faced with change or unexpected challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently function both independently and in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment requiring communication and respect. 
  • Aptitude for working with volunteers and building relationships at all levels of member organizations, from support and service staff to executives.
  • A Bachelor’s degree preferred; a minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated relevant experience is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communicator, with strong writing, conversational, and presentation skills and sound grammar competence.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, managing CRM databases, and working with social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, photo & video editing, or similar skills a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed. Position requires some early mornings and evenings.
  • This position involves a mix of seated and active work, including navigating stairs within the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce office located in the historic Lackman-Thompson Estate and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds or pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. 
Accountability
Position reports to and is directly accountable to the Chief Executive Officer, while the Chief Operations Officer serves as the primary point of contact for day-to-day operational guidance.
