Claremont, CAJob Posting Title:Health and Wellness CoordinatorJob Description:PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Assistant Director of Health and Wellness, the Health and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for assisting with health and wellness education, promotion and programming initiatives for the campus community; supervision of the lifeguard and green bike shop staff; and supervision of the day-to-day operations of the facility during their shifts. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:This information is intended to be a description of the key responsibilities of the position. Perform other duties as assigned.Health & Wellness ProgrammingAssist in planning, promoting and implementation of wellness education, outreach, workshops, and engagement opportunities for the Scripps community.Instruct health education and wellness classes and workshops to facilitate participation and understanding of healthy lifestyle choices.Collaborate with consortia departments to implement health campus-wide initiatives that develop, promote, and implement campaigns that support health and wellness, such as Fresh Check Day, body positive weeks and NEDA awareness.Utilize the facility management software, Fusion, to schedule programs, track inventory and for data analysis.Design marketing materials for a variety of media to disseminate to target populations as directed.Student SupervisionHire, train, and supervise lifeguards and Green Bike Shop students and part time staff.Supervise day bike rentals, the bike raffle, outreach programs, and Green Bike Shop repairs.Oversee regular "in-service" trainings each semester for the lifeguards and bike shop staff to ensure staff are trained on day-to-day operations and to respond to medical and other emergency situations.Field House OperationsAssist in the supervision of all facilities and programs within the Tiernan Field House, Pool and Soccer/Lacrosse Field including, but not limited to fitness programs, physical education classes, open recreation, and special events as needed, including the supervision of student and part-time staff.Participate in all staff trainings (Fall and Spring), team and community building activities for Tiernan Field House staff.In consultation with the Assistant Dean & Director, make decisions related to risk management, emergency situations, and contact emergency personnel as needed.Generate accurate and detailed reports on operational activities, accident/injury reports, incident reports, and supervisory logs.Financial StewardshipSupervise the lifeguard and Green Bike shop budgets, including student, staff, and programmatic projections, expenditures, and reporting.Student AffairsParticipate in the development, implementation, and management of student affairs projects, initiatives, and committees as assigned.Active support for the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.Performs other duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.Understanding of and commitment to the Scripps mission and Student Affairs core values of mutual respect, collaboration, and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service, and institutional excellence.Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues and concerns related to women's health, wellness, and physical education.Experience with multimedia communications (including computer technology), research methodologies, group facilitation, writing, public speaking, and use of teaching aidsMust have the experience and ability to work with a diverse student population.Ability to support women's participation in fitness activities, sports, and recreational activities.Ability to manage, supervise, train, and develop student staff.Must be able to interact with co-workers, peers, and others in a collaborative manner.Must have analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.Ability to work creatively and independently.Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Work effectively and interdependently in a diverse college environment.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other PC software is desirable.General knowledge of computer software for business functions, especially spreadsheet, database, word processing applications, and e-mail.QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree in public health, health education, exercise science, kinesiology recreation, physical education, fitness center management or other related field is required or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job.Two years' experience in health and wellness programming, recreation, physical education or fitness-related fields is required. One or more years' lifeguarding experience is preferred.Demonstrated experience with fitness center supervision, individual assessment, implementation, and evaluation within the private or public fitness industry is preferred.LICENSES / CERTIFICATES: Required Certifications: First Aid/CPR/AED certification at time of hire. Lifeguard certification through the American Red Cross within 3 months of hire.Preferred: Lifeguard Instructor certification through the American Red Cross. Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator certification, Water Safety Instructor, and Personal Trainer certification.OTHER:HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS: This is a regular status, full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position. The regular hours for this position include evenings and weekends.The regular hours of this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department and may include some evenings and weekends.Hourly rate range: $22-$24.50. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Supervises student employees, lifeguards, bike managers, and bike techs.Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. This position requires both indoor and outdoor work. Generally, indoor environments are air-conditioned, outdoor temperatures vary seasonally.
