Senior Estimator

Employer: Lead Technical

Position Overview:

Lead Technical is seeking a Senior Estimator to oversee the preparation of detailed bids and cost proposals for electrical construction projects. This position leads the estimating process, coordinating with fellow estimators, vendors, and clients to develop competitive and accurate project proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates and detailed quantity take-offs for electrical construction projects.
  • Analyze project plans and specifications to identify cost-critical components that influence bid competitiveness.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and review all bid documents to determine the project scope and deliverables.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through value engineering strategies.
  • Lead and support estimators involved in specific trades or disciplines on assigned estimates.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation of all calculations and data used to support final pricing.
  • Determine labor productivity rates and installation unit costs using historical benchmarks and anticipated jobsite conditions.
  • Develop a detailed list of materials and equipment needed for the project; obtain and evaluate vendor pricing.
  • Source and assess quotes from qualified subcontractors and suppliers to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Ensure all required client documents are submitted accurately and on schedule.
  • Draft proposal letters and scope narratives for both competitive bids and negotiated opportunities.
  • Present a comprehensive overview of the estimate, including scope, pricing, and key assumptions, to the Chief Estimator before formal submission.
  • Support project handoff meetings by briefing the Project Management team on estimate assumptions, scope, and areas requiring focus.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimating files and continuously update the approved estimating systems used by Lead Technical.

Qualifications & Skills for Success:

  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical documentation.
  • Skilled in performing cost-related calculations and developing detailed project budgets.
  • Capable of estimating a broad range of project types and overseeing the contributions of junior estimators.
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members within the estimating function.
  • Client-focused approach with the ability to anticipate and fulfill customer expectations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and construction estimating tools.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed, collaborative, and results-oriented.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal teams, external stakeholders, vendors, and clients at all levels.

Preferred Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in estimating or relevant construction project pricing roles.
  • Experience with Accubid, Livecount Cloud, and Bluebeam software is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of CAD or 3D modeling software is a plus.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and training will be considered.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel, up to 10%.

Work Environment:

  • Standard office setting with extended periods of sitting, computer work, and interaction with team members.
  • Occasional job site visits with varying environmental conditions and exposure to higher noise levels.
  • May occasionally lift items weighing up to 30 lbs.
