Position: Substance Abuse Counselor

Location: Remote/Hybrid (Client-Based Facility Work When Required)

Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time (LCADC part-time only)

Compensation:

  • CSC-AD: $32–$36/hour
  • LCADC: $40–$60/hour
  • ADT/CAC-AD: Competitive hourly rate based on experience
  • Benefits: For full-time hourly employees: 25/75 contribution considered after 90 days; no benefits for independent contractors

Position Overview

Healthcare Recruiters International is sourcing an experienced and credentialed Substance Abuse Counselor to join a mission-driven behavioral health organization. The selected candidate will deliver outpatient substance abuse services to adults, older adolescents, and families through both individual and group therapy sessions.

This role offers flexibility (remote for all except group sessions or as clinically required) and meaningful clinical engagement in a supportive environment that values ethics, compliance, and client outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct clinical intakes and substance abuse assessments
  • Facilitate individual and group substance abuse counseling sessions
  • Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans
  • Complete timely service documentation and clinical notes
  • Maintain compliance with agency policy, COMAR regulations, and other regulatory bodies
  • Participate in staff meetings and ongoing training as required
  • Provide updates and discuss clinical or programmatic concerns during weekly meetings with the Clinical Director
  • Maintain active licensure or certification and up-to-date CEUs

Caseload & Compliance Functions

  • Manage assigned caseload, including client scheduling and follow-ups
  • Ensure treatment plans are reviewed and updated regularly
  • Coordinate appropriate referrals when necessary
  • Conduct annual reviews of client treatment status

Qualifications

Required Credentials (must hold one of the following):

  • LCADC – Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor
  • CAC-AD – Certified Associate Counselor – Alcohol & Drug
  • CSC-AD – Certified Supervised Counselor – Alcohol & Drug
  • ADT – Alcohol & Drug Trainee

Experience & Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience conducting assessments, individual/group counseling, and documentation
  • Familiarity with COMAR and state regulatory requirements
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Able to work independently while maintaining collaborative communication with supervisors
