Astrana Health is looking for a Utilization Review Nurse to assist our Health Services Department in reviewing referral/authorization denials and ensuring patients do not meet medical necessity criteria for denied services. Candidates must be available to work 365 days a year to account for the rotating weekend and holiday coverage schedule. This is a hybrid role where the expectation is to work both in office and at home on a weekly basis.

What You'll Do
  • Complete reviews of denied claims and associated medical records to determine validity of denials for elective inpatient admissions, outpatient procedures, post-homecare services, and durable medical equipment, based on clinical documentation and payor policies 
  • Prepare and submit denial letters supported by clinical rationale, industry guidelines, and payer-specific criteria
  • Collaborate with UM team, providers, and other departments to clarify documentation or cording as needed for rationale support 
  • Refer cases to Medical Directors as needed/appropriate
  • Maintain knowledge of state and federal regulations and accreditation standards
  • Comply with internal policies and procedures
  • Perform any other job duties as requested
Qualifications
  • Active and unrestricted LVN license in California
  • At least 1 year of direct Utilization Review experience 
  • Experience with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook

Environmental Job Requirements and Working Conditions
  • This is a hybrid position. The position will be fully in-office for 3 month probationary period. After successful completion of probationary period, position will transition to 2 days in-office and 3 days at home. The position is located at 1600 Corporate Center Dr, Monterey Park, CA 91754. Candidates outside of a 30 mile radius of the office will qualify for remote work. 
  • This position requires open availability Monday - Sunday 8 AM to 8 PM. The schedule will go out 2-3 months in advance, and accommodations can be made if you need certain days off/can switch shifts amongst the team. Typical hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. There is required overtime in this position. We also require weekend and holiday coverage. 
  • The target pay range for this role is $30.00 - $34.00 per hour. This salary range represents our national target range for this role.
