The County of Hawai`i is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator. The salary is $75,600.00 annually. The position is available in South Kohala, HI. This is a permanent full-time position with the possibility of conversion to permanent appointment.
Job duties include assisting and participating in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water treatment plants, conducting tests and analyses of water samples, and making necessary adjustments to treatment processes. The position requires availability for stand-by duty, emergency response during non-working hours, and overtime as needed. There is a shortage differential of $400.00 per month in addition to the starting salary.
Minimum qualifications include graduation from high school, possession of a current Hawai`i Mandatory Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate (Grade II or higher), and a valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class 3). Continuing education units are required to maintain certification. The position requires knowledge of water treatment principles, hydraulics, electricity, laboratory procedures, and safety practices. Ability to learn and apply theories, operate equipment, diagnose malfunctions, and perform shift work is essential. Physical requirements include meeting health and physical condition standards for heavy physical effort.
