Job Description

This position is responsible for monitoring and helping to manage all cyber-security issues and for ensuring the County is properly safeguarded against exposures. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: List and describe the duties and responsibilities of this job in the order of importance or prominence (from most to least essential functions) below. Preparedness – This position focuses on all security-related issues relevant to the County’s technology. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring the systems daily to ensure firewalls are adequate for proper protection. This position proactively researches the latest information available on security trends and threats and recommends solutions and specific actions when needed. Response – If the County is compromised by breaches, viruses, or other threats, this position leads the initiatives to respond immediately to cure the problem. The incumbent does what is necessary to prevent further exposure in other areas of technology. Compliance – This position creates, documents, and maintains policies and procedures required to ensure the safety of all County information. Additionally, the position regularly evaluates for CJIS, HIPAA, and PCI compliance and reports any concerns to the Director, IT. Maintenance – This position regularly checks user permission and access to ensure those that need to be removed have been removed. Furthermore, updates and patches to the software are monitored to ensure the County has the most up-to-date versions. Continuing Education – The incumbent is expected to remain current in his/her field to ensure the County has the highest quality of safety and cyber security. A significant challenge for this position is the legacy systems. There are many of them, and they do not all communicate effectively as the County would optimally need. With a limited budget, it is difficult to work with older systems and hardware and keep everything running and in good repair. REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE: Minimum Level of Job-Related Education: BS degree in IT strongly preferred. Minimum Amount of Job-Related Experience: 5 years. Minimum Level of any Required Qualifications, Licenses, Certificates, Registrations, or any Relevant Knowledge, Job Skill or Equivalent Experience: Appropriate licenses and certifications to manage an IBM and Apple environment; must be comfortable with a variety of media. Requires excellent consultative and negotiation skills.
